Who built his desk?

Anyone build is own desk for the studio?

Could you post some pics?

I'm thinking about mnaking my own desk for my future studio and was wondering what type of wood would be the best to use?

Thanks in advance,
Beathoven

Of course that's not what you were looking for. Mohogony is ALWAYS nice. That is if you can afford to purchase it and finish it right.

Huh?

What's MOHOGANY or should I say WHO is MOHOGANY?

Anyway, I was looking for someone who designed and built a custom desk.

Peace,
Beathoven

(P.S.: Thanks for the reply hokypoky )

Beat,

Sorry if this sounds "abrupt".......BUT do 2 things; scroll down the thread list in this forum ( which it would seem you didn't do) and also use the SEARCH function as this topic has been (and still is being) covered here.

my brother built my desk about 8 years ago out of plywood and 2x4s. Nothing fancy, but there's plenty of workspace ... it is big (approx 5'x4'). He finished it off real nice ... you'd never know it's plywood.
He also made a big attachment out of 12"x3/4" oak boards that sat on the back of it. It had a 7-space rack on each side. I took it off when I redesigned the control room so I could see out the window. It's now standing on end and I use it as a bookcase (see behind the keyboard).

Hi!
Unfortunately I don't have a digital camera (hey, if you have to choose to spend your money on good quality tapes for the 'ol TASCAM or a digital camera, what would you do?), but I also built my own desk. Actually, they are two desks. One for the computer, so that it also can be used for school/work and stuff, and one movable part (with little wheels on it) for the studio, rackmount, etc. I made it out of MDF, wich is twice as cheap as plywood. MDF is heavy, sturdy and easy to saw. If you want to put screws in it you have to drill a little hole first, and if you want to finish it with paint you'll have to use a primer first.

Bigkahuna: your brother did a really nice job there! Wish I had the skill to make something like that!

Good luck to all you DIY-ers!
Dirk Demon

PS Mahogony is a tree, you know, like oak, pine, birch, mahogony. Most Les Paul guitars are made of it, too.

Yeah, my son made it in art class out of clay when he was 15 (he's 24 now) out of clay. When bands come in to track, I turn him around so he's looking out througfh the controll room window and tell them the eyes of Elvis are upon them.

Very nice!

lift your monitor's up about 6" and you'll more than likely enjoy the sound more.

just a suggestion!
