Alesis quadraverb...still useful in a home studio??

Money is tight so I am considering using my original 1990 Q-verb on some songs? Am I crazy? Is it still useful, or should I take the plunge and buy another multi effects set up?...and if I do...what?

I still have 2 of em. I dont use em much since i got my lexicon. But there are some cool sounds in there. I particularly like the chorusstrings patch and the delays are pretty good. Theres a Leslie patch that doesnt sound much like a leslie but its a cool effect. I would use em more, but the line noise off em it just too damned loud.

I get a hiss out of mine if i turn the output past half. I dont think ill ever sell em. They will always have SOME usefullness. How much $$ are you paying for the Quad. (One note... the Quadraverb does one thing that none of my other processors do.... if you change preset wile signal is going through, there is NO dropout!! not even a split second! not even my lexicon does that!) I have the Quadraverbs and a few other pieces hooked up to a MIDI controller so that i can change presets on the fly. Pretty cool for when you want to go from a chorus to a flange instantly. Also cool that i can set these program changes on a midi sequenser and have it automated!! I dont think its a waste of money (If its under $175 definately take it.) Just my opinion. If you want o hold out and save for a better unit. Thats also a wise decision. But either way you go, Its still a cool piece.

but there are a few patches that seem pretty cool. I have played around with the balance of input to output and found a good level where the hiss is minimized.

I would like to try out a Lexicon MX500 to compare, but will have to wait and find a clean used one. My rig is a Alesis HD24 and Mackie mixer.

I have the MPX500 it totally blows away the alesis. The unit is DEAD quiet!!! I can turn up the gain knob till the cows come home and there still NO NOISE!! (The MPX100 and 300 both had noise, the 500 ...nuttin!) If you can save for the 500 get that instead.

I think I may upgrade to the Lexicon -500, I have heard a lot of good things about it.
