Question

Is a monitor nessary in mixing or I can use headphone for mixing? For example an Aardvark Direct Pro sound card with 4ins and 6 outs, there is also one headphone jack infront. where should I plug my monitor to?(of-course I know not the 4ins) The 6 outs which contain 4 normal 1/4 jack and 2 Aux output using normal red and white audio cable. And seems that monitor speakers accept only red and black cable, that what cable or converter I need? Another problem is, I only have a small room for recording, which included my PC, my systhersizer, and my guitar amp. And if I'm using the RODE NT2 for vocal and guitar amp, will I pick up noise from the computer? ( I mean I will record all the music tracks first , then let my singer sing the vocal track with a pair of headphone for him/her. And the room is totally silenced except mouse click and not very loud computer fan noise) Will the Rode NT2 pick up all these noise? My room is only 16msq, and don't have any sound proofing material. If yes, is there any solution? I need you all help, cause this is what I wanted to do next month for my first time homerecording. Thankyou very much, if you can reply my questions. Enjoy!

Cornbread stuffing goes well with parrot...and you'll probably want white wine instead of red!

Cool

YO CENTRAL OF "V.":] (V was a great TV sci-fi series too)

What you hear in your headset is kind of a special environment and if you mix listening through the headset only, what you hear YOU WILL NOT GET ON THE MIX-DOWN TAPE/WHATEVER.

Monitors will let you tweak left/right and, if needed with a vocal, use some EQ, as well as your added reverb in the mix.

Since I'm not familiar with your rig, I don't know about PC noise, etc. But, I'm sure someone reading this site will know.

However, I've found that my AKG 3000 can pick up the air moving through the heat vent in my studio; thus, when I'm cutting something, especially a vocal, I turn off the heat/air/flow. But, then, my rotten parrot will chim in from the next room just at the wrong time. Maybe I'll have parrot for Xmas dinner.

Good luck with your recording.

Hi vcentral. I do not think the aux out are meant to drive speakers by themselfs, they need to go to an amplifier then to speakers unless you buy self-powered speakers then the amplifier is not needed. And yes I think the general concensus is you do need to mix down with speakers to get a truer sound.

About computer noise, I have been thinking about this. Maybe a foam lined box with a couple of whisper fans on it could be placed over the computer temporarily to muffle the noise while recording.

Good luck, Layth
