Joe Meek VC6Q question for Alan

Alan (or shakes, et al), would it be O.K. for me to use a balanced out
(really quasi-balanced) out from a different mic pre into the XLR input
of the VC3Q? This would mean running the first pre at +4dBu rather
than -10dBV. The goal would be to have a hotter signal than going
line in. I have a passive direct box where the XLR cable can be run
out of into the VC6Q. Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. This was picked up as a Guitar Center "blow-out" for $199 and
they didn't have a manual to give me! Can't complain as I already
love this thing's sound.

Thanks Gidge!
Alan, if you have a spare manual great-if not no big deal.

Thumbs up

Chessparov,

I just bought 2 VC6Qs. Only one has arrived and the other should be here any day. If you don't get one from Alan let me know. I would be happy to give you one of my extras, make a copy and send it to you, or make a PDF file and e-mail it to you.

Peace,
Lunatic

Thanks for the offer!
Actually I recieved the info needed from Alan over the phone.
He's always been nice about getting several of my calls about
this or that, despite his busy schedule running his business.

Last time I checked the manuals for all the Meek stuff were on their site: www.joemeek.com

Talking

Good call Ray but I could not find it at http://www.joemeek.com which is the USA site. However, on the UK site I found that they have a, supposedly, new "downloads" section that includes product manuals. The VC6Q manual can, in fact, be downloaded in PDF form here:

Peace!

I spoke with Chess on this today, so he is taken care of. The only problem I have with this is that you end up using another mic pre's electronic section so you end up going through two sets of electronics. Yes, you get more gain, but you get more noise...so be careful.

There is a new download center for manuals and other stuff, but it is on the UK site at:

http://www.joemeek.net/joemeek/downloads/index.htm

So log on, it has lots of information

Thanks everyone for your support!

I'm experimenting with a number of signal chain options-even (gasp)
using an Alesis nanocompressor to ADD artifacts to my vocals for a
more lo-fi rock sound (hey if it works...)
