Pattern control on live voc mics -dynamic vs condenser

Maybe this has been covered befor.
It seems like handheld directional condenser mics generally have a point in the side or back frequency response where they do not reject well, as compared to dynamics. Is that their nature, or perhaps the graphs are just fudging the true picture?
