Question Impedance matching speaker switches?

hey.

I need a speaker switch. These are some models that i looked at...

http://www.megathon.com/home_theatre..._selectors.htm

I'm getting ready to embark on a power amp/monitor purchase. Bearing in mind sonusman's creed 'Buy Cheap, Buy Twice' i'm gonna save up for a Hafler P3000. To go with that i'll get either 20/20's or YSM-1s or Reveals ( tomorrows demo should narrow those down.)

With a seperate amp i'll be able to run some of my other speakers that are piling up in my house through a switch to A/B mixes.

Some of the switches are supposed to match impedance and help protect the gear.

1.) Will these things also mess with the sound?
2.) Is not having 'protective features' gonna hurt?
3.) How does this 'protection work'

i'm in that uncomfortable position of not wanting to put a radio shack ANYTHING between an AMP that took too long to save for and a nice set of monitors just to A/B a mix on shitty speakers.

any input would be great.

Mike,

Man, what a rook! A speaker switch is about as low tech as you can get. Even the junk Radio Shack sells will be fine for that. You do NOT want anything that sticks a resistor into the path between your amp and speaker. A resistor is needed if you want two amps to power one speaker, but you never want to do that anyway.
