Effects used in a U2 song

I'm recording a cover of "One" by U2, and would love to find out the certain effects used on the guitars. First, on the right guitar during the verses, there is an effect that makes it sound...electric keyboard-like, anybody who has the song would probably know what im talking about. second, if you listen to the verse around 0:55-1:05 there is another guitar panned in the center doing a bend with a similar effect on it, a little different however. i just wish i could apply some effects to make these two parts sound like the original, and i would also like to use these effects on some future originals of my own. thanks guys!

If every unwarranted opinion was held back around here, we'd have about 12 posts, total.

Lighten up, mmkay!

Jeez...talk about comin' down on a brotha for making a joke!

OK, I did something I like to avoid at all costs...I listened to U2.

I found the MP3, and it sounds to me like either an Electro-Harmonix Micro Synth or Bassballs.

These are both pretty expensive...but with a little fiddling, I'm sure you could recreate the effect by patching a recorded guitar track through a vocoder plugin.

Hope that helps...and take a couple deep breaths or something, you guys!

I haven't heard the song for a while, but I am pretty familiar with it. On the verses, it sounds as though the Edge is using a leslie speaker... the other part (the bendy thing) might be a Digitech Whammy pedal, which he used on Achtung Baby and Zooropa (listen to the opening of "Even Better than the Real Thing"). Hope these are the parts you are thinking of

If you have a POD, it has a Leslie setting (rotating speaker). You could get something "kinda" like it with a chorus or flange pedal. As for the Whammy, I am not sure... maybe you could double the bend, or record the bend once, then pitch shift a copy of it if you are recording-- you probably need to mess around with it, or drop some $$$ on the pedal (is it still about $200?)

thanks a lot guys! i've been trying out random effects in n-track, adding a little reverb here are there, but i'll definately check out those effects dolemite, but first try chorus or flanger like you said Nate. For the bend part, I'm actually pretty satisfied the way it is now, I recorded off of a very nice Fender tube amp, and it might only need a little bit of tweaking with effects to make it sound right. thanks again, -Nate

Huh? Is that what ya get for having a sense of humor and trying to help out? I didn't see you doing much except playing post police.

OK, I'm not as familiar with the leslie effects, but I think there might be two different effects going on here. The guitar that sounds a bit like an organ that you hear throughout the song I would definitely attribute to the leslie, but to me, the part that comes in at 0:55 sounds more like the synth pedal/vocoder.
