Studio Configuration?

I'd like to know if this is a logical setup. I'm pretty sure it is (I hope), but if there's something missing can ya let me know?

Instruments(keyboards,drum machine,mics)-to digital mixer-to soundcard-to computer (multitrack)-to CD,DAT,cassette,etc.

sounds good to me... but why a digital mixer ?

I like the Yamaha 01V with its on board effects. I'm a hip hop producer/writer the sound is suited to what I want. A friend of mine has one and I really like it.
