Question

Okay...I have the Yamaha MT3X. I record tracks 1 + 2 alright, by plugging my SM-57 into the Mic/Line in socket for the track. Then I come to the third track. I plug the mic into the Line in socket, note, not Mic/Line in, and try to record same as b4. But I hardly records...I comes out very quiety, however much I fiddle about with the various knobs. So can you not record from a mic into a track which doesn't have a Mic/Line in socket? Is there a way around this prob, or am I just really dumb and you are all having a nice little giggle about my lack of knowledge?

your mic/line in may be boosting the signal some where a line in typically does not.

ODIZZY, IF WE ALL CAME OUT OF THE SHUTE ALL KNOWING, ALL COMPLETE,ALL WE WOULD HAVE IS TIME , THAT COULD BE A PROBLEM. WHAT I HAVE FOUND, LINE ONLY INS DON'T HAVE GAINS OR TRIM TO BOOST YOUR SIGNAL SOURCE SO YOU EITHER HAVE TO TURN YOUR VOLUME UP TO MT. ST. HELENS LEVELS, BAD IF YOU LOVE YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER,AND CARE ABOUT YOUR NIGHBORS AND NOT NESS,ON THOSE INPUTS A SEPERATE MIXER COMES IN HANDY IF YOU HAVE/CAN GET ONE. RUN YOUR WEAK SIGNAL THRU A CHANNEL THRU A CHANNEL ON THE MIXER THAT, SHOULD BE FINE

You might try a mic pre to bring the mic up to line level.

Question

I am not sure..but There is something you are missing.... There has got to be a way to assign inputs 1 and 2 to tracks 3 and 4!

Read your manual....it may envolve using the "pan" controls or "bus"... or whatever.

I am sure that some one out there has a unit like yours to help you... don't give up

The pre-amps have to feed all tracks some how.... (1 feeds 1 & 3? and 2 feeds 2 & 4?)
many decks work like this.

Sincerely;

Dom Franco

Talking about Significant other, I am trying to record "no sex" at the moment! Anyway, the prob is that I bought the 4-track second hand...no manual, no box, nothing. Is there anyway I could get the manual for a product that isn't even manufactured any more off the internet. The Yamaha MT3X isn't even listed in the products in the Yamaha website. It's been replaced by the MT4X.

Oh, BTW, I bought an SM57 2nd hand too....Is the top meant to turn? It doesn't unscrew, just turns around?

The top on my SM57 twists as well. I thought it was messed up when I bought it, but I guess it's supposed to.
