digital satellite recodring

Now I have several programs for wave recording and all of the cables connected from my dish to my PC. When connected to the source to be recorded, I can hear the sound through my speakers but can't control the volume coming out of my speakers. Also I don't have enough volume on the line in and or the recording volume to get a proper recording. When I select the mic I get a high enough recording volume but of course I get any noise and a slight echo coming in through the mic. Does anyone have any suggestions ??
