mp3.com cds

Has anybody here had one of the mp3.com cds made? I was thinking about it but now I see they just use the mp3 files to compile the cd I am beginningto think the qualioty can't be that good. The other thing I don't know is once you have got them to make a cd for you, can you cancel it if you later second thoghuts -I mean tell them you don't want them selling your stuff any more. I coudln't find anything in the terms and cond's about that.

Last time I purchased one from an artist, the CD cover and label was covered in ads from mp3.com sponsors, and it was a paper label sticker stuck onto a 0.30 CDR...

Wasn't very impressed, but then, that's not the first thing that doesn't impress me about them.

Anyone mind if I mentioned the CD program over at my site? As in, it wouldn't be spam?

I'm interested in the cd program. My mp3 dot com cds turned out ok, I thought, considering they were burned from mp3s. Are the one's you create not cd-r and not from mp3?

I'm finishing up a 10 song project and am looking toward different ways of getting cds created and would love to know the difference between the 2 services. Not just cdwise, but all around.

If this has been answered elsewhere before, someone give me a heads up and I'll do a search.

Answered in the forums on NWR, but I'll answer here as well so there isn't cross-posting.

We do high-quality silver-coat CDr's with a Thermal B&W label printed DIRECTLY on the CD, unlike the paper 'stickers' that mp3.com uses. Most people can't tell the difference from professional pressed CDs.

We can do the audio from high-quality mp3 (bit rates as high as 256kbps), or from redbook CD (the favorite option).

There is several different packaging options, including clear-tray jewel-cases, std. jewel-cases, clam-shells, and paper sleaves. Artwork is of course, entirely designed by yourself, we don't drop ads anywhere, other than a small 'NoWhere Radio' logo on the back of the jewel-case if you use that option.

Because we use the more expensive CD, and print the label onto the CD, use redbook CDs for source, one at a time etc., the cost is a bit higher than mp3.com, we however, only retain $1 of the profit, you retain the rest, and set the price where you want. You also get mass purchase discounts, starting as low as 50 qty.

One other big bonus is that there is no upfront cost, or sign-up fee, making it risk-free to sign up, and try out. You can also remove the album from the site if you like, although I don't know why you would want to!

I'm also thinking about adding a 'cheapy' CD program, like mp3.com has, just to be competitive, but that's in the future.

The biggest asset is that NWR is run by independents, for independents. There is no outside funding, no major industry involvment. We do it for the music. So you know, there will always be that support base for you!

Thanks for the info - it's good to know of another cd service being offered - it's been a long time since I visited NWR - I think it was sometime when you had just started up Waldo last time i looked -but I will click the links right now and take a look.

Cheers,

Malg.

Two of the programs (self-ship, and on-demand) are now active. Feel free to sign up!
