Any building skills?

Good Morning, well I have a personel solution to all studio fixturing. I design it, then build it. I am a Cad Designer, and have built everything in my studio. First of all, understand this. If you design your whole studio from the start, and build or have the parts cut at a local cabinet shop, you will end up with a studio that is flexible, unique and will solve every storage/rack/display/etc. problem you have. Interested. Email me. I can help with everything in this part of the studio building process, as I have been doing it for 30 yrs. And believe me, this IS the most important part of the studio. Equipment comes and goes. Do you want to remake your studio every time you get a new piece that doesn't fit? And as a result, your creative process EXPLODES! Then you get to the original purpose. "HAVING FUN, FUN, FUN!" This is no crap. Trust me, I am a musician, not just a designer. My studio works great. And it is ANALOG and Digital.
And besides, you will learn a hundred new things that help in other areas of your life, and ITS fun building, if you have a few insights into the process(i.e.how to do it.(I design for a UNION architectural mill, and even design for CNC machining centers. I KNOW how to build. And you end up with things that work, its cheaper and unlike anyone elses! My personel studio is in a 10' x 12' bedroom but if you saw it you wouldn't believe whats in there. Email me for pictures.{I don't know how to attatch them here yet.)Have fun.

Hey Rick,

I see you're a newbie, good to have you here!

Sounds like you've got some useful knowledge to share, and that's what we do here, with EVERYONE... So, please, figure out how to post an attachment ( it's easy) so we all can see exactly what you've been building in your studio!

Welcome to the forum! If you have the building skills you are definately ahead of the game. Unfortunately, I know how to build decks and thats about it, so you can imagine the materials I use

I'm all for custom furniture. Things not being neat and fitting tightly annoy me enough to distract me from writing/recording.

I bet a lot of folks on this forum will be asking you for your help. Sometimes a second pair of eyes is all thats needed to make something right.

No, and this is what I've been doing today. When I turned my console table sideways (because it needed to be longer all of a sudden) I lost some rack space against the back wall. Unfortunately, the gear collection didn't shrink so I had to disassemble all the racks (after taking all the friggen gear out) and move them over slightly in order to make room for "one more" homemade rack. Then I moved the rack rails closer to the floor about 4", giving me enough room on top of them to add shorter rack rails increasing the functionality of each rack from 18U to 24U, without the gear hitting the slanted ceiling.

What a pain in the ass. Anyway you're right - its better to design it right the first time, taking into consideration reasonable expansion. I can handle remodeling every 5-8 years... but not more often.

BTW what cad software do you utilize? I use Visio simply because its drag and drop and on the laptop that my company gives me.

"Trust Me" apology

Hello again, I apologize to ausrock and the rest of you if I sounded like a know it all. I'm not. Just a believer in common sence. But I am here for one reason only. And thats to offer and recieve help. So don't trust me. Don't even read my posts. Someone out there will, and will be happy they did. And I do appreciate the reply. Like the old saying goes, you can't please all the people all the time. However, I'll put my pictures where my mouth is. A picture is worth.... you know. My picture server has been down today. I'll try to load them tomorrow. And in the mean time, maybe some body can tell me how to link them in the forum. I'm new to all this forum stuff but I'll learn, cause I'm here to stay. Took me a year to get into this forum, and I have a lot to offer, as I'm sure you do. And I'm looking forward to learning from all of you. Hey, it's all about the music to me. Speaking of music, ever hear of the sixty chord system or use a square to prove a right triangle? Or a right triangle being the analogy to prove a major chord? But don't trust me. Your welcome to email me at:
rmfdesign@rcsis. com Till the next time, thanks

welcome, rick...
to attach a file, when making a post, simply scroll down a tad, and you'll see a button that says "browse..." just above the "submit reply" button. It just so happens it is in the same "box" labeled Attach file:. Note the max size is 102400 bytes. You should be able to navigate things from there.

Rick,

Apology not really necessary, but accepted anyways.

Your post was such that I wasn't sure whether you were offering you help "gratis" or whether you were trying to "advertise" in a business sense (something which is not really acceptable in the forums' rules).

My apologies for being over-cautious, you will find an amazing range of people, experience, advice, tolerance and acceptance here...........welcome and enjoy.

Ausrock .......a true aussie

welcome RICK ....we need people with 30 years experience at this forum and I agree with you regarding designing it and then it flows from there.......that is an important factor in setting up a studio. But don't expect the others in these forums to have CAD skillls, they're too busy trying to understand Sonar and Cubase and even NTrack justifiably IMHO.

cheers
John

I think he was making a joke... but aside from that there is nothing wrong with being a know it all. Especially if you in fact do

Like you, I have a fairly deep understanding of a lot of this stuff, but deep of course is a subjective term.

To link to your server is easy - the bbs software Dave runs (what you are typing messages into) figures it out for you, so just put:

http://www.pictureserver.com/mydirec...icturename.jpg

and the software will make a valild link out of it. Oh, assuming your picture server is up <smile>.

And no, I personally haven't used a square root to make a right angle triangle. I use a level and a plumb

Sorry, just trying to poke a little humor into this

Back with pictures!

Hello everybody, didn't mean to drop out of site, just busy. Well, my pictures are not what I thought they would be, but here goes anyway. I'm in the studio now cause this is my CAD workstation and I work at my console at least 4 hours per day. I built the console 5 yrs. ago, and my control rm. was the size of a 2 car garage. Its now in a little 10' x 12' bedroom. But I still track, and play music in it every day. And its never done. I don't know how many pictures I can load. I'll start with 2, as a test, and if anyone is interested in the rest, email me for more. I am enjoing this forum and will contribute as much as you let me. I learn here all the time. O. K, lets see,, the pictures are here
