Hi there!

I'm not sure I'm in the right topic, but here's my question:

Whenever I hear my own voice (be it singing or talking, whatever) I always think it sounds rather corny. Everyone else around me disagrees with me, and tell me that's they way my voice sounds. Not corny, not funny, just my voice. The problem is, when I record a song I always think it sounds stupid 'cause my voice sounds strange (to me, that is).

Has anyone recognize this? Is it just in my head? Is there nothing left to my but making instrumental music or buying a voice alternator? (Hey, Cher has one too and she's making millions)!

The reason your recorded voice sounds funny to you is because of the resonance from your skull. If your that disapointed about your voice - get a singer ( I hate the sound of my own voice, that's what I do )

This is often people's reaction to hearing their voice on tape, especially the first time they hear themselves. You hear your voice differently from how everyone else hears it. Which is what Bizarre meant by the resonance of your skull, I think.

i had that problem at first. the more you sing and get used to your voice from an outside view the less foreign it will seem to you.

I think everyone goes though this. I've been singing a long time and I still don't like the sound of my voice - yet I get compliments on my singing from many of the people I gig with.

Bottom line, your voice is your voice. You can take some lessons to improve some of the tone and phrasing - but it's still your voice.
Use it to your advantage, develop your own "sound/style"

Ozzie has a strange voice, Jagger has a strange voice - it hasn't stopped them from selling a whole lotta records.

I'll just keep practicing, maybe I get used to my voice. If not, taking a singer is my second option. (So much for fame, though...)

BTW, I have a twin brother (identical), and people always say he sounds the same as I do, and I always disagreed. Now I see why!
