slaving cool edit pro?

I can't seem to slave my pc, running cool edit pro, to my fostex DMT-8. I went through all the steps in the manual, set Cool Edit Pro to slave SMPTE mode, but when i press rec/play on the fostex, CEP doesn't start playing.
I've got the feeling there's something I'm overlooking... any ideas? What kind of settings do you use for offsettime, framerate and so on?
Please help!!!
