Fiddling with some Hip-Hop sounds.

I was over at the futureproducers site a while ago snooping around.
Found a page where they had Hip-Hop machines like the scratch, some vocals of various kinds that you can play with and experiment.

I found to my suprise, I spent over an hour and a half messing around with that stuff. I even recorded as tune and saved it under the name of DarkHit. I don't know how to find it or listen to it though, but that's ok.

In all honesty, I'm a blues player. I've focused on Delta Blues most of my life. I've shyed away from Rap and Hip-Hop. But of late, I poking my snoot into this scene. Some of it I don't care for, but some is inviting, even to an old redneck like me.

I use to say that music was music no matter the style, and that is was a universal language, much like a smile.

But in the next breath I'd knock Rap and Hip-Hop only because of my narrow mindedness. I don't think I'll be a DJ, or write Rap or Hip-Hop, but some of it I like.

Guess, what I'm trying to say, is after Beat and I didn't see eye to eye, I decided it was time to investigate.

I'm glad I did. Now when I say music is music no matter the style, I can mean it.

BAD GAS, Your freakin hilarious man! I never come into this forum but then I saw your name out on the home page for the latest post and I said to myself......"What the hell is badgas doin in there?"

I don't really care for hip-hop either but I try to appreciate it as much as I can.........The old school stuff I like a little better, like NWA and old Tribe and what not..........

But I think Tom Petty said that "hip hop was the truest art form in music to arise since the sixties." ------------ I might have to agree with him on that even though I really don't care for tom petty either.........

I think it's the whole ego thing that bothers me about hip-hop....ya know? Everything seems to be so egocentric in hip-hop but maybe that's what makes it the "truest art form to arise" in such a long time.............There's a lot of ego out there in the world.........................However, I just think that talkin about it or rappin about just adds more "fuel to the fire" and that's what bothers me most........

But rock on hip-hoppers..........."I feel you" (are you guys still saying that? or not? I sound like a dork when I say that, you guys make it sound cool lol)

I guess my rooted problem with this music is the tough guy, fuck the cop, rape the bitch image I first heard from Rap.
Then I assumed, Hip-Hop was New Rap so I let it pass by unnoticed.

I've found some Rap I like, but the tough guy stuff eats it as far as I'm concerned.
I'm gonna have to mosey up Tacoma Way sometime and check out one of those Hip-Hop joints.

Hey that's really cool badgas. I think you should definitely pat yourself in the back for expanding your horizons, that's ultra cool in my book man. And it is fun stuff man, hip-hop and electronica in general. I wish that some of the other hip-hopperz and electronic guys would come in here and commend you as well cause I'm always trying to get guys that are usually totally against synthesized/sampled stuff to at least give it a try.

In regards to your thoughts on the Hip-Hop Culture (and it's a culture to be sure, just check out MTV for 3 sec. or even most Pro Sports palyers, it's the same bullshit), I totally agree. That shit pisses me off tons and is trully fuckin up the world. You should check out some Massive Attack. They are British cats who most definitely don't subscribe to the whole fuck yo' mamma cash money hoes bullshit. It's considered Trip-Hop but has the same feel but more accesible and important IMO, ie organic basslines, full full sound, great stereo sound, etc. Blue Lines is a landmark album of theirs but if you like seering guitars and really good production check out Mezzanine. Anyways cool to see ya in here, maybe we'll see more of you.

I'll profess more of my ignorance.
I always thought that there was a band behind the turntables. I thought the turn tables were only expensive scratch machines.
I thought the band did all the other sound effects.

I've been back to that site twice now playing with the electronic sounds.

It's new jack blues!

Nice to see you in the HipHop section Badgas. Shouldn't be hard to loop some of that delta blues, and turn it into a tight hiphop track. Blues is one of the foundations of hiphop.

That's what I was thinking, Cwadroon.
Them old blues have more use than just laying around being reminiesed about.

I actually did a track about 5 years ago called "New Jack Blues", it was all about similarities between hiphop and blues,
excerpt:"REflections of time and poverty- mad oppression, directions from crime and suicidal depression, back in the day--the train was the freedom ride, and now graffitti shows--we trapped on the wrong side, So recognize it's all new jack blues, wax the tracks and pay your dues." hahahahha or something real similar anyway. It was a slow jam type thing. Anyway, let me know how your venture goes.
