Talking I've got blisters on my fingers!

I just picked up the bass again after about three years (I play keyboards mostly, but I need to get my bass chops back)

I forgot about the blisters, ouch.

Here's to fresh calises!

Ahh, yeah.
Pleasent little memories of pain and discomfort.
I miss it.

Maybe I should play left handed for a night to satisfy my masocist urges.

They'll heal, Krakit, then you'll be on your way. In the mean time, keep practicing, for hours.

Flatwound

My bass came with roundwound strings (which I dislike), but I haven't gotten aroudn to buying and stringing up some flats.

I really like the feel of flatwound strings. Far easier on the tender spots.

Yes, much more comfy, but it all depends, later, on the sound you want.

Later.

Make sure to soak those fingers in rubbing alcohol or lemon juice. Pain deluxe

Reminds me of the time I had two warts drilled out of my left index finger..one on the string side and one on the other. Of course I was gigging and playing in a band at the time.

I could have got by with out my pinky for a few gigs but it HAD to be my index finger. Yes there was blood on the strings (and other disqusting debri) but we wont go there.

This reminds me of the Clash song where the song ends with Joe Strummer yelling "I've got blisters on my fingers".

I was quoting Paul actually.

There's a Beatles song that ends with Paul screaming "I've got blisters on my fingers".

Actually it was George, his voice EQd to sound lower, tape-reversed and then reversed again...

(Seriously, I vote for Ringo too...)

Griffinator has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Considering that "Helter Skelter" was about as hard as Ringo ever had to work, I'd probably vote him in that clip as well...

I don't - I'm merely speculating. Any particular reason you seek proof?

huh... I always just assumed that was John for some reason.... I did some searching on google, and found several sites that say it was in fact Ringo...

here's one of those sites:

Hey, whats with the rubbing alcohol, do you drink it or soak the fingers? seriously tho' I'm intrigued, I work on a minesite and my hands are always black with old grease, the chemical hand cleaners are full of skin softeners and after years of callused hands I cannot keep the things. It is a real problem. Any help?

From what I have read, it was indeed Ringo.

Interestingly, the Beatles Anthology (I believe Anthology 3) has part of the legendary extended version of Helter Skelter. It's not what I expected - it's slower, for one thing, and the guitars are less distorted (and even in tune!). It's really more of a slow shuffle, and it takes way too long to get to the chorus, in my opinion.

Paul wrote the song after reading somewhere that the Who had just released the nastiest, dirtiest rock song EVER... and of course Paul had to try to top it.

Not the Beatles brightest moment, IMNO, but a fun track. U2's cover is also kinda nice.
