Soundproofing?
We play in a 10x20 storage shed with carpet on the floor and a big rug on the wall behind the drums. The walls are drywall and the ceiling is metal siding and the door is metal too of course. We recorded a little today and left the door open to cut down on echoes but the drums still sounded like crap. I was using 3 mics, 2 sm57's (one on the snare and one overhead) and a radio shack mic in the bass. the bass and snare sounded fine but the overhead was terrible...would carpet or blankets on the walls help?? or something on the ceiling??
Thanks... |

The carpet might help. Better mics would make a bigger difference. Get some real overhead mics and kick mic. 57's are good for snares and toms though.

I think you mean sound deadening. Search this BBS for that there is lots around. Good luck,

Check out the Studio Building and Display section of the BBS. There's a lot of good information there on build-your-own sound absorbers (which it sounds like you need). Carpet's not great because it doesn't absorb uniformly across different frequencies. I've seen several recommendations for 2-inch rigid fiberglass insulation panels wrapped in colored burlap.
Hope it helps. Alex |
