New question about +4

I had posted a thread asking if my gear was +4 or -10. Ok, it is +4 but another question. If i go from my pre/amp, to my compressor(which is set for +4) out to my mackie, set the trim so the meter reads 0, and the set the fader to unity gain, should the meters in cakewalk read zero too. It goes through a Delta 1010(which is also set for +4). Does this show the inaccuracy of meters, or does every peice of equiptment have a different setting for what 0db is. Or am I just totally not knowing what I'm doing. Please explain, Thanks.........Josh
