If this has been done to death, someone please be kind enough to point me in the right direction.
My playspace (and hopefully one day studio-to-be) is in my basement, which also has a sump pump. What is the best way to eliminate as much noise a possible from the drain pipe (about 4" PVC)? The sound of the water rushing through is REALLY loud. It's located inside a wall separating the basement and the stairway leading down to it. Fortunately, the side of the wall facing the inside of the basement is completely open, so I can do pretty much whatever I need to without demolition. If I use standard fiberglass insulation, and the insulation touches both the pipe and the wall, will that transmit sound? Or do I want to cram as much into it as I can? I can deal with the layering of the drywall, I just dont know what to do about the insulation, and I don't want to find out I was wrong AFTER the drywalling. Thanks |

I can't really offer any advice... I know that masking plumbing noise is one of the hardest aspects of sound proofing..
If you can have the pipes moved by a qualified plumber for a few hundred bucks, you might even be better off that way.... Sorry, I can't be of more help.. Joe |
