Is 3 micron necessarily better?
This is a follow-up to my earlier post re: GT Electronics AM51 mic. Is a 3 micron necessarily better for recording acoustic and vocals because it is more sensitive than a 6 micron? I've read that it can result in "pops" if you don't use a shield. Is a 6 micron (like, say, the MXL V67) more versatile if you may want to mic a guitar amp occassionally?

That debate is beat into the ground... a properly spec'ed 3 micron should indeed be better than a 6 micron, but there is only one person that can get 3 micron and under done RIGHT, and thats Stephen Paul, and you better start saving some serious SERIOUS large cash for his stuff. At least for now. He is working on a 3 micron production mic that is essentially his Neumann U87 mod for around $1000, so lets keep our fingers crossed and hope he manages to release it.
Right now he is working on 0.7 micron stuff. Yeah, wow.
