Question Home Recording

Okay,I've got a Pci 128 ESS solo-1 soundcard. Now I want to record my guitar and burn a few riffs to CD. I use a DOD TEC8 grunge pedal, should i just run the output from the pedal to the sound card?I dont want to spend the money for a mixer. I am hoping to be able to mix tracks through Cakewalk or some other software. Does this sound like it will work?Is there something I'm missing? I want to make sure before I hook this stuff up.
