Where does this plug go?

OK, have to step into newbie land again for a second to ask a question, and I am definantly still a newbie.

I have a Korg d16 multi-track recorder and a mackie 1202-vlz pro mixer. What is the best way to hook these up to record, and can I take multiple inputs on the mixer and bring them to 1 track on the d16?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sure... pan all inputs to the left and connect your left main-out to your multitracker.

Sweet! Is that a normal thing that people will do with a mixer- Multi-track combo. Or is there a more professional way to hook those up?

Oh and by the way, When I am going from left-main out of my mackie, where on the d16 am I pluging into. The actual track input or someplace else?

Can you give me some other ideas of how this combo could be beneficial? Or different ways they could hook up?

Somehow you gotta get the desired sound into your multitracker.. who cares if it's normal...

You want the signal on the track? Put it in the track-input. If you want the signal to go somewhere else, put it somewhere else...

The benefit is that you is that you get the desired amounts of channels from your mixer onto a desired amount of channels in your multitracker..

I tried the whole panning and coming out of the main out thing before. when I did I came into some bizarre stuff that I have yet to figure out. After I laid down the tracks and tried to pan on the recorder this is what happened-if I panned all the way to the right the signal was at it's hottest and if I panned hard left the signal was gone. Funky stuff.

You can use the inset points on the back of the mixer as outputs, Inserts 1-4 are connected to respected channels 1-4

Thanks for the tip. I acctually tried that last night and got some good results - But I also ran into some weirdness. I actually just posted something about it in the mic forum, But ithink it is probably better suited here so I will just copy the problem on this thread, and hopefully no one will care.

Mic weirdness
I was doing some recording last night on my korg d16.
I was running an ecm8000 into a mackie 1202-vlz pro and then patching that channel to track one in the recorder. I could plug my headphones into the mackie and listen to myself as I recorded with the ecm8000. When I tried this exact same thing with a electrovoice dynamic mic I could not hear myself in the headphone unless I unplugged the patch from the mackie to the D16. Yet it would record fine into the d16, but it wasn't even showing a signal on the mackie?? Can anyone tell my why this happens?? Thanks.

Usually on a Mackie use the inserts if you want the cleanest possible signal and need to record several discreet tracks at once. If you want to mix multiple sources headed to one or two tracks (like a stereo mix of drums or keys) then use the main outs.

There really isnt a one setup fits all. You will have to repatch for different tracks and for the mixdown. As a rule of thumb the simpler and more direct you can go the better.

I am unsure what Inserts you are speaking of...Because I am such a newbie, and I suck. I am a visual dude, so are you talking abou the inserts on the back panel or on the top of the 1202, like right under the xlr inputs? Thanks for helping!
