stupid question regarding bit rate

If you are using a recorder that has 16 bit converters can they be upgraded to 24 bit converters? If so, explain how.

You can't "upgrade" converters, you have to buy new ones to go from 16 to 24 bit

Cool

what kind of recorder are we talking about?.....usually converters cant be upgraded....if your machine, soundcard, etc has S/PDIF inputs, you could get outboard converters and go in digitally, skipping the onboard ones......

That's true, Gidge...

...I didn't think about that...but he would still have to buy new (external) converters so my answer was correct!

Unless your Creative's marketing team trying to push the Audigy and then you just take a 16-bit file and then pad the front with Zeros to make it 24-bit!!
