hooking up compressor and mic pre.

Im thinking of getting a compressor and a pre amp. How would i connect these? Mic to compressor to Pre amp to mixer? or some other way?

I've seen some pre-amps (some nice, and some of those USB-interface units) that have TRS insert jacks built in... so, I suppose you'd just plug your mic in, and insert the compressor into the channel in the pre.. but i guess it all depends on what you are looking at.

Or...if you buy the Jomeek VC1Qcs, you just plug the mic into the front of the unit and turn the compressor control knobs until you get "the sound."
