The Lemmy sound

How can I get that cool Lemmy sound or at least a nice overdrive . Know it has alot to do with playing style.
I use a Rickenbacker 2002 from 1975 and a Precision also from 1975 (if it matters). Don't want to use any Pod or something. Suggestions?

Im pretty sure Lemmy used a Rickenbacker 4001 and played with a pick... not sure about any effects etc but i guess thats a good starting point.

I ment a Rickenbacker 4002 of course, or is it a 4001 (mine has this (never used) stereoplug), guess it does'nt matter so much.

I also play with a pick and have done so for years. Is Lemmy's sound coming from an overdrived amp or a pedal, what gear!! Someone? ..Lemmy?

by the way, thanks OneLouder for your interest.

Can't help thinking there'll be a lot of Mashall going on. Of course, if you've got the cash, you could always pick up the Ricky signature edition...

For bass overdrive I use an Ibanez PD7 Phathed bass overdrive pedal... it can sound a bit synthetic if its really cranked up to maximum distortion levels but if you dont get carried away it gives you a nice overdriven tone in a similar vein to Lemmy. I know that doesnt answer your question directly but it might help!

Well, it's a 4001, tried a Bass Stack pedal..is it Ibanez made? Also tried a MXR Micro Preamp to get the extra power to my Ampeg (not valve) and my homemade JBL 15" speakers.

Good stuff, but it does not really works the right way. Have to put an eye on the Ibanez PD7, never heard about it...I tend to think it's about amps and speakers...tube stuff!! Am I right?

What gear can get me that sweet and nasty animal of sound of Lemmy without having to kick a pedal?

Gimme more suggestions!

If it's any use, the best distortion pedal I've found for bass is the Dod Classic Tube. It's meant for guitar, but if you turn the tone right down then you don't lose any definition but you get a lovely ballsy tone. Great for chords played up the neck on my '73 4001, anyway.

hrn im guessin (and i mean guessing!) that Lemmy was usin tube amps cranked somewhere or other... if you can try out a PD7 tho itd be worth a look at as its really got a pleasant overdriven sound to it...

the one time ive used a tube amp with a bass (playing around with a musicman stingray in a store) i couldnt get a nice clean tone from it! sorry i cant be more help i live in a cheap ass entry level solid state realm im afraid!
