Tascam 414 w/ effects

On the tascam 414 mkii portastudio, how do i add let's say compression to drums, and bass at different times after I have already recorded them to their tracks. Can I just add an effect to one track on the studio?

You could take a recorded track, EFFECT 1 -out, thru the compressor, then back IN thru a channel input, and record that compressed signal to tape. You'd need to have an open track to record to, but basically, that's doable.
