Ok guys, I am COMPLETELY new to this stuff. Scared to death actually. It all seems so..... overwhelming. I just want to write and record music ya know? However, I am so stressed with all of this recording stuff.
I am only doing scratch stuff for my band. So when I present them a new song I can hand them a CD and point everyone in the right direction. I will be going direct with the bass and guitar with the help (hopefully) of the line 6 guitar port, and will be using Sonar and fruity loops for the drums. I will only be doing one track of vox, 2 at the most, and only one at a time. So I need a decent one channel mic preamp. Also, what is an ok inexpensive midi keyboard since the Sonar walkthrough assumes I have one. (Talk about feelin like a dumb-butt.. ) Anyway, please help if you can! |

The Joe Meek VC3Q might be a possibility for the pre-amp. Around the $150 mark I believe. Don't know about the keyboard.
The VC3Q has been talked about quite a bit on this board lately, so if you want to know more about it you could use the Search function. And there's a review here: http://www.sospubs.co.uk search under VC3Q |

Yo accident-prone Just Crash:
The latest copy of TAPE OP, #27, has a plethora of mic pres detailed in it. This is a free magazine if you can find the site. Try: www.tapeop.com In addition, nobody talks much about the Martinsound mic preamps. They make two models and they are priced at the medium high end. I'm investigating the GRACE DESIGN 101 at the moment. But, since I got the Yamaha 2816 DAW, I don't know if I really need a mic pre. The pres on the 2816 are very good. I still have my ART dual channel hooked in the studio but so far have not used it with the 2816. Keep twiddling those dials. Green Hornet ![]() |
