I currently own a roland vs-1680 without the expansion boards. I want to buy and outboard noise gate and possibly even a compressor/limiter. Are these ouboard pieces compatable with the 1680? If they are, please explain how I can hook them up to the 1680. If they're not, is it just more conveneint to buy the expansion boards?

Cool

Go from the 1680's aux out's to the effect's in. Then go from the effect's outs to a new track on the 1680. You'll need a RCA to 1/4 inch adapter though. The aux outs basically are your send/return jacks...only differences is you need to send it to a new track.
