Hello all,

I know this has been asked here before so if you can direct me to the thread I'll happily go.

Question...I'm finally getting to work that needs saving. If I backup to a CD how do I best accomplish this. Like the wav files are audio and the sng file is data...correct? Can I save all as data? Or am I missing something?

I haven't done a bunch of backup, but the .sng file holds all the info of the song, like what file is where, where the faders are, stuff like that (I think). I think the best way is to save all your .wavs and .sngs on one (or more) CDs as data. I don't think it is a good idea to save the .wavs as music files. Then, if you need to get to some old stuff, you just put the CD in, copy all the files to your harddrive (I think you have to change the read only attribute) and open the .sng file with N-track. Make Sense?? Hopefully that helped...

Yes, a wave file is a data file that just happens to contain musical samples. Write your wave files to CDROM as data, not audio.

imacgreg.....got ya but what about the "read only attribute"? I'm fuzzy on that. When should I look for that option to show up when I insert my CDROM to retreve my song and do I select "read only" or unselect it?

Yeah,
I'm pretty sure that when you pop in the CD with all the .wav files on it and select some to copy to your hard disk it will say something like "these are read-only files" To fix this, you just go into the properties of each file and un-click the "read-only" option. You should try it first to make sure. I would, but my recording computer is not around.
