Ok. guys, I've started the process of sttineg up my home studio. I plan on recording mostly guitar based rock and I have a drum machine on the way along with some mics and other stuff. Now, which recorder is going to be the right one for me? I've played with a Roland VS-840 for a couple of hours and was really impressed, Yamaha says that their D-8 is much easier to use. I know the Yamaha doesnt have the built in effects but I can live without that and buy my own unit. And how much does compression come into play?. Any one have any suggestions?

oh yeah the rolands compress the audio but it aint compresion compresion(audio) it takes what you record and compresses it for more time on the disc but it isnt the worst sounding thing i has an efect on sound but it isnt horible. id say get that vs-840 if you think it will work for ya.

Hey Tessmer:

Punch in the following site and check out the new offerings from Tascam: 24 bit recording, so they say.
http://www.tascam.com

They look interesting.
