Soundcard installation problem

I have bought a PCI soundcard to my computer, installed it, but I get no sound. What´s wrong? Any ideas?

With a description like that, could be anything. Does Windows think it's working, or are there error messages in the Control Panel System applet? If you don't know what I'm talking about, you should get someone to help you (like, sitting next to you)...
