Question JV-90 Replacement?

I've owned a Roland JV-90 since 1993 and think it was one of the best keyboards I've ever owned (okay, I've only owned one other, but that's beside the point...). One of my buddies thinks so, too. So much, in fact, that he continues to borrow it regularly for thew past 2 years. My task now is to recommend one for him to buy. It needs to be a) equal to or better than the JV-90 in number and quality of sounds (mainly piano variations) b) It has to be at least 76-note and c) as inexpensive as possible ($1000-$1500).

I've looked at the XP-80, but it is a bit higher priced than he would like, but it meets all of the other criteria. Does anyone have recommendations? Anything produced by another manufacturer that has the sound quality that the Roland series has for a better price? etc.

Thanks,
Michael S.
