Cool Sonic Foundry

I was thinking about using SF.

What do you guys like about this particular program?
Is it easy to use?

Thanks a bunch.

I'll assume you mean Sound Forge...

It is pretty easy to use, but if you aren't embedded in the Sonic Foundry suite of Software, you should consider Steinberg's WaveLab. It does a bit more than SoundForge 5.0... The arguments for buying SF5.0 are that they threw in many things that you used to have to pay for as extras to make up for the lack of new features when upgrading from 4.x to 5.0. (Acoustic Mirror, and Noise Reduction). Plus they added the WaveHammer which is a nice directx plugin.

Depends on what you're doing . If you're like me and doing almost 100% electronica-sample-loop type stuff, then Sonic Foundry is the way to go IMHO. Acid kicks all ass.

Recording live music? Sonic Foundry products might not be the best choice. Better to ask in Mixing / Mastering or Computer Recording and Soundcards and describe specifically what you'd like to accomplish.

spin, you asking me?

I do most of my work in Vegas... occasional ventures into ACID and SF, but not often.

Sound Forge is *very* easy to use once you're in it, but i haven't used Wavelab, so i can't compare the two. The Acoustic Mirror is nice, and the capabilities it grants are quite impressive (though probably not too different from any other impulse/convolution application). There are a few sites on the net where you can download effects emulating the traits of vintage gear, not to mention reverbs. But to be honest, i'm not too fond of some of Sonic Foundry's effects. I don't like their reverbs much at all, and i think their choruses are pretty crummy. Make sure you get a VST wrapper program so you're not limited to DX plugs. There are many professionals who use it based on magazine articles and editorials, so i don't think you could ever say it's a sucky program. I guess it ultimately depends on how much you pay for it (Sonic Foundry released SF 5.0 for *$99*!!! as a download when it came out. You can't lose with that price.)

good luck researching,

-marcus

I wasn't asking you Queue. Sorry about the lack of communication, on my part. (I know, that you know, what you are doing, in the "home recording" arena).

I was asking Jerry D ..... No disrespect, Jerry D.

Spin,

Keep this up and we're all going to petition the Dragon to have your user name changed to "FONTSTERWUN"
