Question Vsr Good Or Bad?

Im thinkin bout buyin a vsr-880hd but Ive heard good and bad things bout them whats the deal?I dont know much bout digital equipment Im used to recording on a reel-to-reel 4 track.Im sure Ill have to read the manual to perform some of the advanced functions but will I have to read the manual to simply record with it?or will I have to read a books worth of information to just get started?I have a mixer, mics, pres ect. so I dont need a workstation but is there another 8 track that I should be lookin at instead(besides adats)in the same price range?please help LUV FRANK BOOTH

Thumbs up

I bought a VSR about a month ago and I like it very much. There is a rather lengthy a confusing manual(actually 2) but if you take your time and read the manual while you press buttons youll be okay.If you follow the users guide you should be able to do simple recording pretty much right away.last week I recorded our weekly jam and it worked out pretty well even though I was trying to play and record at the same time.I recorded at one of the space saving modes(MT1) at it sounded pretty good, next week Im going to record at the highest quality mode(MAS) which gives you half the recording time.No worries though as with a 6 gb hard drive you have 6 partitions each with 25 min of recording time across all eight tracks.Thats about two and a half hours of eight track recording in its highest mode.MT1 sounds really good and will give you twice the recording time(5 hrs!!)I just have to try MAS and hear how it sounds!!I dont use the external cd burner as I mix down to Cakewalk and burn cds from my computer, piece of cake!!

Hey thanks fer yer input.I was thinkin bout gettin a reel-to-reel 8track just because I know how to use em butt it looks like Ill be happier with the vsr once I learn how to use it.I was thinkin bout usein my 4 track to record on then droppin the tracks onto the vsr to add more tracks and to master on.think thats a good idea?Well guess Ill find out wont I.thanks again and Ill let you know when I get it and how its workin out FRANK BOOTH
