Newbie question

Recently bought guitar tracks 2 and having a blast just bought a condeser mic, and looking at a new sound card etc. -- what is the next step up? what more does guitar pro offer? Don't know if I'm ready for or really need sonar. Just doing Guitar, bass and fruity loops and vocals.

well, all i can say is that using sonar makes recording so much more easier as far as editing and fade in/outs are concerned. and, sonar allows for recording as many tracks as your sound card can playback or unlimited tracks. what you're using may only allow you to record up to 8. and you usually end up using more than 8 tracks in a song. well, i do anyway...
i said the same thing when i first started recording, i dont need this or that, but it turned out that i only went and bought the good stuff later.
so its up to you, either get the good stuff now, or get it later. but remember, you get what you pay for.

I use Home Studio 2002 which I have heard described as Sonar"lite".Dont know about that as I am unfamiliar with Sonar but I do find Home Studio very capable at least for my needs.Home Studio gives you unlimited tracks depending on your set up.I have a Compaq 800 mhz computer and I had 256 mb of ram and I got about 27 tracks(sans pluggins).I just upgraded my ram to 512mb,I dont know if that will effect track count.Home Studio has pretty extensive editing power and uses direct x pluggins along with dxi soft synths(it comes w/3).It also has extensive midi features(at least to me it seems extensive as I dont know much about midi).Home Studio also has 24bit/96k capability (if your sound card supports 24/96).I havnt used any other programs(except Guitar Tracks) but I think Home Studio 2002 has a lot of features for not much money.

thanks for bringing up Home Studio 2002. i forgot about that. just as good, but not as many plug-ins. and works the same way as sonar.

Thanks,Guitar Tracks Pro looks good too with up to 32 audio tracks.It has more guitar features and more pluggins instead of the midi features of 2002.I havent used the midi features yet because as of now Im a midiot but I figure this old dog might learn some new tricks!!
