Some new stuff, still no vocals :(

Here is some of my latest work in progress. Tell me what you think.

Notes:

I have no proper monitering equipment so it may not sound right.

I have no vocalist and I can't sing so there are no vocals

Please tell me what you think

Interesting stuff.

Would be much better with some VOCALS though...

Should be easy to write lyrics to this stuff too. Very popish, upbeat happy tune. I liked it. WCA is what I listened to.

No real point commenting on the mix too much. If your gonna add vocals that will change it all around. I like the guitar sounds though. Synth bass and drums are always a bit of drag, but you did them well. The brief swing feel that you do at the end of each 2nd bar is cool, but needs to be either more subtle, or with one or more of the instruments putting emphasis on it. I'd kill the hi-hat doing that pattern and let an acoustic do it. Or have the hi-hat and acoustic strum pattern play sync(loose, more implied) with each other.

Listening to it again, it reminds me of a cross between Oasis and Collective Soul. Don't you hate it when people do that? 'it sounds like so and so....'

Nice song, with some lyrics it will really open up.

Thanks for you comments, I have a vocal melody for WCA but I can't really sing, I'm going to give it a try though and will maybee post the results.

I also would like to get my drums and bass sounding more realistic (e.g bass slides, etc), but I don't know how to do this just yet.

I checked out wish.

Good ideas again, just need some more acoustic elements in it so it doesn't sound so 'canned'.

Anyone can sing, just do it!

Well I should be getting a Midiman Keystation 61 next week so that I can actually play the piano parts instead on drawing them on the screen, so hopefully that will help it sound less canned.

Also do you think my mixing has something to do with it sounding 'too canned'??

I would like to hear the WCA one have more of a rock drum beat instead of a swingy feel. To me it kind of sounds like something Counting Crows would have done. Maybe a more powerful snare sound too. Overall pretty good. I am really not into midi stuff that much but the song ideas behind it are certainly solid.
