connecting it all

i've got a 12 channel "biamp" board/art reverb/beringer compressor. have been told that a reverb can be hooked up into a channel instead of thru fx in/out to get more control? anybody know about this. if not, i would like to hook up the reverb/compressor but aren't sure which goes into the in/out? if i hook them together with either one first, thru the fx in/out., the compressor overrides the reverb?
