Suggestions needed on Mic/Pre amp set up for rap vocals.

Any suggestions on a good Mic/Pre Amp set up for recording vocals? I am going to be using Hard Disk Recording on a macintosh (MOTU 828)I got about $2,000 to spend.
Just trying to see what other producers and engineers are using or have used. I am trying to narrow down brand names while I research different gear.

Any good insight appreciated.
