Rnmp...

On a lark I called FMR Audio about 10 min. ago.
Here's what the nice lady told me...
Due in January
1/3 rack size like the RNC
single channel
$399.00 List
I asked if was a colored pre, like a Meek, or clean like a Grace.
She said,
VERY clean, VERY quiet.
Thought you would like to know.
Any questions, I guess you could call.
She's there now.

Hmmm, that contradicts what everyone else seems to have been told about it being warm and slightly colored, somewhat like a tube or iron based pre, without tubes or iron. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Sounds kinda' familiar.

Seems like every new pre and the new pre's brother and uncle are all claiming to be "VERY clean and VERY quiet."

For a while, there, it seemed like they were all claiming to sound tubish, and a now companies like presonus and Studio Projects are going for the versatility, allowing the user to dial in their own amount of color.

Marketing plays an enormous role in this industry.

I kinda doubt the RNMP will be less than great regardless of what color it imparts. It probably wont be much on looks either, since he doesnt seem to care much about anything other than the sonics of his stuff. I'm sure it will hang with some great preamps that are way out of the $300 price range. We'll see, I guess, Harvey will be one of the first to have it, so lets bug the hell outta him to get his impressions up quickly.
Peace.

The woman I talked to said they've been working very hard on it. She said that it would be in the tradition of the RNC as far as looks and freq. response.
I also think that it will sound much better than the stuff in that price range, if it's anything like the RNC, which I ended up buying 3 of. She didn't make it sound like she was giving away any big secret. I got the impression that they'd tell you anything you want to know about it if you just asked. Very nice to talk to.
