Rode Nt-1... Hip Hop/ Rap-rock Vocals...

Hey hey to everybody...

I'm contemplating buying this package type set-up to start recording vocals to our hip-hop/rap rock group... We have our beats/instrumentals already recorded on cd so the actual playing of the music is no problem. Here's the list of equipment we plan on getting to cut our album. Please give feedback to each, and what equipment you would replace or suggest... THANKS TO ALL...

-RODE NT-1 MIC (need the most feedback for this one)
-ROLAND VS880
-some sort of good preamp w/ compression and phantom power(anyone know one?)
-AURALEX STUDIO FOAM (to turn our closet into a recording booth)

I searched a lot for the best mic for hip-hop vocals and I came to realize that for ME the C1 is the best. In doesn't need that much eq-ing (if at all).
I heard that some people use the Rode for rap vocals and are successfull.
A good preamp for the money people say the VT(P)-1 from Studio Projects would be. But it didn't hit the streets yet and I don't think it has compression.
And also, the Auralex will not be enough for the sound isolation. Check the threads in Studio Building and Display in the homerecording forums page.

Save yer money and forget about that Aurelex stuff. Fiberglass insulation is the way to go. It's way cheaper and has a higher absorbtion factor. You can wrap it some burlap or something to contain all of it.

The NT-1 is really harsh and grainy for my tastes. I think you would be better off with an SM-58. Seriously.

I've heard some samples of it(using a preamp with compression) and it sounded very crisp and clean.

I'd rather go up then down... Meaning what would you reccomend, on the flip side instead of a SM58 whats the next best?

this C1 everyone talks about... Is it good for rap as well as singing, or just mostly singing...

It depends, I would get the Marshall v67 before I get the C1 if I were you. They are close enough in sound that you would probably not hear the difference. After that it comes down to what's your color prefernce.

True true... They had some sort of deal going a while back on MarsMusic.com , where you get the Marshall Mic free when you buy a Fostex Vf-08 or something. I wish I would have scooped that deal up.

The C1 looks like a good buy though.
