mp3.com

it's been about a month since I put some of my stuff on mp3.com.
about a week ago I received an email like that:

"Hello,

My name is [G.K.] (I know the name ) and I am the editor of [a magazine], a printed magazine and international website from [H] which is based on AOR, Progressive Rock and Melodic (Hard) Rock.

We are now pretty interested in hearing and reviewing the CD or Tape of your band. I'd very much appreciate it if you could sent us the CD or a Tape with the songs you have and if possible a Biography of your band, so we can make a review of it in [our magazine] and let people know of your band. We think your kind of music is our kind of music. A review on our site is set to be a guarantee for more popularity of your band.

If you decide to sent some material, the postaddress is below this e-mail."

first of all I thought: "fine!"
a day later I received a second email. almost the same but of a different editor of the same magazine. ok, that's possible.
BUT: today I received quite the same email again but from a totally different guy and a different magazine (from italy).
funny thing was, that 'sent' was written with a 't' again - I thought it should be 'send' in this case (correct me if I'm wrong) so that's when I got suspicious.

now would you send the cd/tape?
what will be the result? do I get popular or only my songs (say stolen)?

did any of you guys get THIS letter too?

cheers & thanks
six

if u have'nt try to talk to them personally before anything else. curious as to what happens. have u done research on any of their links/logos/emails etc?

Thumbs down

My partner and I had a guy from Alaska who claimed he wanted to use one or two of our songs in a promotional video for snowmaking machines.

Yep... that's right, snowmaking machines, IN ALASKA!!!!!!

Translation: People will send you a bullshit e-mail with a bullshit story just to get a free CD... and they don't even have to pay for shipping.

Steer clear, you're being scammed by some cheap-ass mope.

What was the name of the magazine? I will let you know if I know of it.

As far as snow machines, they do exist. Sometimes you have to take chances.

david: strutter'zine. it's from holland. he replied yesterday (I sent him a cd) and attached the review.
maybe no one will ever read this review (though it really is on the page and will be printed too) - but hey, if I don't send any cd's it's damn sure no one will ever know me.
