Amplifiers (digital?)
Do amplifiers come in digital and analog????
application: An amp. for my Pioneer CD player > to Bose Acoustimas 5 speakers. Thank You. Michael |

Amplifiers are analog as far as I know. They hook up to speakers and provide the final stage of voltage amplification to move those cones back and forth.
Some powered monitors have a digital input. But that's because they have an amp built in. The Bose Acoustimass 5 requires an amplifier. They recommend 100W/channel into 4 ohms. The inputs use bare wire spring connectors from the outputs of an amp or a receiver. |

There are amplifiers on the market with digital inputs (S/PDIF, either TOSLINK or coaxial) that can be fed by DVD and /or CD players that have digita loutputs but as the good doctor stated, the amp is still an analog device.
