Roland Vm3100 Pro good choice or not?

I was just wondering if anybody here has had any experience with or knows any information about the Roland Vm3100 Pro Studio Pack that would be useful in deciding whether or not this is a good choice for building a DAW. I am a beginer and it seems like a simple solution but i would like to know all the pros and cons before investing $600.

Thanks in Advance

Pros:
Records 8 in. Great for a drum set. Can use a little compression for the snare and kick.
Cheap, comes with recording software.
Has lots of built-in effects.
Saves the costs of a separate mixer, sound card, outboard effects.
Very good sound quality for the beginner or low intermediate.
Allows computer sound editing.
VS Planet website message forum for help.
Turbo Start video gets you up and running in no time. (Make sure you get that!)

Cons:
The manual sucks, peroid. (There is a supplemental manual on the Roland website that helps.)
Complex mixer routing scheme.
Mixer to computer cable is short (can upgrade to a longer one though.)
Long learning curve for intermediate to advanced functions.
You should understand how mixers work first or one mute or solo button push can ruin your whole day.
XLR low-to-high impedance transformers do not fit along side each other on the six 1/4 inch inputs. (The 1/4 inch input jacks are too close together!) What idiot did this? You must use a few 1/4 inch extensions. That solves that problem.
