No recording volume on N-track

Hi,
I just downloaded n-tracks onto my computer. My setup is Guitar->4-track->Soundcard (mic in). The problem is that when I record, teh playback is very low volume, almost to the point of being inaudible. Also the recording level monitor on the program is low as well, though I am getting some signal to the computer. Does this mean I need a seperate preamp? Can I just use my 4-track? Help!!! thanks in advance, Ward

is that an acoustic guitar or an electric? I wouldn't expect to get that strong a signal from a guitar just plugged into a 4-track, though I would expect it to be louder than barely audible. To record an electric adequately you'll almost certainly need a preamp, or an amp with a mic. stuck in front of it.

Thanks, I think I'll have to go with a preamp.
