Guys, I just found a pretty good deal on a dbx 576 ($350). I hear these work OK as an entry-level pre-. Any thoughts? Also, what's the difference between the 576 and 586? Thanks!

That is a great deal!
I wouldn't call it an entry level pre at all. The 576 is a mono pre-amp and mono compressor combo. You can use the pre and comp seperately or together. The 586 is a stereo pre-amp.
