No. And there is no such thing as a new VS840EX. VS840GX is the latest 840-model...

But it depends on your needs... I would probably prefer a VS840EX (I have one and a VS1680) over an old VS880 without a CD-Bruner... But I would prefer a VS880EX with a CD-burner over a new VS840GX...
