Whats up with my 1680 comp?

I have had my 1680 for 2 years now and I do not know if Its me or am I going brain dead. I know how to add compression durring recording. Now I am trying to mix a tune and (insert) Have done it in the past) compression a a few tracks and nothing is working? Its kind of like when you go to the atm and when it asks for your PIN# you brain fart.

Anyone post the correct step by step for inserting comp into seperate traxs and at seperate levels? Peace Bleed
