Delta 66 static with Vegas Video
I've recently developed static that is not heard until playback of the wav. It doesn't happen everytime and I'm having a hard time tracking down the source. I've tried using my C1>DMP2>Flying Cow>Delta 66 S/PDIF and an offbeat mic through the OMNI pres using different cords. Happens either way. Recorded 24bit 48,000 and also lowered to 44,100.
My system is: Win98 SE PII 350 Ensoniq AudioPCI Delta 66 Promise Raid on board 256 Ram ATI Xpert2000 AGP MiroVideo DC30 I have current drivers, switched cards, changed IRQ's, checked cables and nothing works. I also have n-Track and can't seem to reproduce the problem. Could it be Vegas? I check on Sonic Foundry's board and there are other posts for static, but the only solution suggested is to update the sound card driver. I did that. The funny thing is, I tried to record in Sound Forge and I got static. This is driving me nuts!! I got the Delta66/Omni in September and it was working great up until just recently. Could it be a DirectX issue with Sonic Foundry or could I have a defective Delta 66? It doesn't pop or click, just static that's recorded in the wav file. Help! |

Make sure you're not clipping anywhere.

I've been watching that as well. I can record just test-test-test several takes in a row. Sometimes static on one or two and the third ok then static on the fourth etc. I don't know until playback. Very frustrating.

Did you upgrade your Delta 66 drivers before you installed the new software?
If so, It could be the delta drivers themselves. This recently happened to me. I had to work backwards through the drivers until I found a set that is reliable (again.) Both sets of "multiclient" drivers caused a random static like distortion on recordings (but never during playback.) It would happen everytime I was sure I had "solved" the problem. I drove me nuts, too. I've been using the delta 66 and Omni set up for quite a while now and had absolutely no problems with Sonic Foundry products until I upgraded the drivers. Be sure to use the uninstall utility (from Midiman.com) to remove the current drivers before you attempt to change them - forward or backward. Let us know if that works! |

I did go back 1 version using the uninstaller, but it didn't help. I'll try going back further. Thanks for the suggestion.

Uninstalled drivers and reinstalled 4.1.22.27 drivers and NO STATIC...YEAH YEAH YEAH. I recorded at least 10 test wavs!!!!! I must not have recorded much or just got lucky in between installing the last 2 versions of drivers. You're awesome! Now those patches of hair can start growing back in...ha Thanks!

Great!
I swear I was ready to start therapy again over this. I still have an uncontrollable twitch because of it. Just keep in mind that, if it does happen again, avoid the Multiclient drivers altogether - at least that's what I had to do. Its been fine ever since. Happy recording! |
