Cubase 5 and SB Live - freezes using soundfonts

Hi,

I have a big problem with my Soundblaster 5.1 Live card and Cubase VST 5.0.

When I use SB Live bank instruments in Cubase 5.0 the computer freezes. Totally locks up and nothing else to do but restart.

I can play and edit for a while and suddenly it locks up.

I have tried upgrading to the Cubase VST 5.1 - with the same result.

I have and AMD 700, 256 Megs Ram and Nvidia Geforce 2. I'm running Win Millenium.

The computer is rock steady normally, but not in Cubase.

I've heard a rumour that the problem coild be caused by VIA chipsets and something called "Sounthbridge". What is this and what do I do from here?

hi bigblue...go to DxDiag and check to see if your main driver for your NVIDIA card is nvdisp.drv version 4.13.01.12__--if it is, find the latest update for that driver and install it...let me know if this helps...I have the same card and had some problems when I first got it...I may have a couple more ideas if this doesn't help...

I have just checked the version in DXdiag. My nvdisp.drv is version 4.13.01.2183.

Sorry I forgot to mention that my MB is an Epox EP-7KXA !

Any other ideas?

Hi again.

Just upgraded from WinME to Win2000. With the same result. Even tried installing all upgrades and service packs with no luck.
The computer freezes when playing soundfonts.

But I can see that SB Live 5.1 shares IRQ 11 with USB controller and My Inno 3D Tornado Geforce 2 MMX 100/200. Three units sharing the same IRQ - but no signs in Device Manager of problems.

Tried chaning these IRQ's though - but can't do it in Win2000. Tried changing the PC from ACPI to standard PC in Device Manager and working around the different IRQ possibillities but no luck.

Any ideas. I'm desperat - I've had nothing but problems with my CREATIVE SB Live Player 5.1 - and I'm hoping to get something out of it before I decide to throw it away and NEVER BUYING anything from Creative again. Not recommonding it to frineds and family.
