Akai DPS and mix downs?

Hey,

Im trying to get levels as hot as possible during the last stage of my recording process. I have my song mixed down to the two tracks, then I increase the volume a tad with the Global level setting. I save the setting. Then burn that to a cd. I did an experiment and put the volume really low and then burned that to a cd and the volume didnt change on both attempts. Why is this?
